Founded in 1924, Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHA) is a nonprofit organization that uses four cornerstones – service, education, advocacy and training – to create opportunities for adults and young adults with mental illness to recover to full, equal lives.

MHA serves Los Angeles County, California, with sites in Los Angeles, Lancaster and Long Beach. We have two integrated services programs based on our nationally-recognized and replicated model, two homeless assistance services, and a housing and community development program. Our Wellness Centers blend physical and mental health strategies to help individuals pursue healthy lives.

We support a countywide peer support network for people with mental illness and sponsor Spanish-language education and advocacy groups for families of people with mental health needs.  Our Information and Assistance service helps individuals and families find mental health care throughout the county.

We are partners in Mental Health America’s “Campaign for America’s Mental Health” public education efforts. We want all people to understand how to protect and improve their mental health, and know when to seek help for themselves or someone close to them.

Our training is offered throughout California and across the nation. We are designing and demonstrating a mental health career pipeline to attract and assist people to our field.

In our advocacy work to improve care for adults with mental illness and children with emotional problems, we are active on state, local and national levels.

MHA founded and is affiliated with Clifford Beers Housing, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to developing housing that is affordable and supportive for people who are recovering from mental illness.
