Challenge Information

The Friends to Funds Challenge is an MHALA Staff-driven fundraiser to help create support for the people we serve!

All donations will go to MHALA's work helping people living with mental health conditions.  Funds raised support our work to ensure that people living with mental health conditions have the services they need, representation in government, community support, and a skilled workforce to serve them.

Our work is not easy and it is not cheap, but it is one of the most worthwhile things we can all do right now.  Mental health is one of the defining issues of our time and it is adversely affecting people with little resources to fight it.  That is where MHALA comes in.  We step in and bridge the gap for people in need of resources like medication, communication skills training, financial planning, benefits, employment, education, social support, therapy, and the list goes on and on. From former foster youth to veterans to adults living with mental illness,  we do whatever it takes to help people struggling in our community find their footing and move forward!

For Donors

Donations made through this challenge will make a difference in the lives of people living with mental health conditions.  They will support an EFFECTIVE organization that has been around for almost a century and exists entirely to change life for people struggling with little resources.  Our commitment to this cause is evident because we fight for it in many targeted ways.

  • Creating Resources: Check out our history page to learn about the many different non-profit entities we have created and spun off in order to address multiple areas of need in LA County.
  • Pioneering Models of Care: We created a new service model in the 1990's that changed the way people living with mental health conditions receive services in our state by putting the consumer in the driver's seat and focusing on growing intrinsic gifts instead of "fixing deficits."
  • Training Professionals Everywhere: Not only do we provide these effective services in multiple sites across the county, we actively train mental health practitioners all around the county on how to implement this work into their own practices and we do it across multiple levels of expertise (from high school to supervisory practitioner levels.)
  • Advocating for Change: We also advocate for mental health rights at the city, county, state, and federal levels.  Learn more here about our leading roles in the passage of California's AB34 in 1999 and again with Proposition 63 in 2004.

When you support MHALA, you make a tax-deductible gift to a federally approved 501c3 non-profit organization that takes a 360 degree approach to mental health in our community. We do it effectively, efficiently, and consistently. With your support, we will continue fighting to ensure that mental health care and services are effective, accessible, and stigma-free for everyone in our community.
