Mental Health America of Los Angeles, Cedars-Sinai Launch Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist Certificate Program
Mental Health America of Los Angeles (MHALA) partnered with Cedars-Sinai to launch a certification program that will train a new generation of behavioral health specialists.
The MHALA & Cedars-Sinai Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist Certificate Program is a free six-week program for college students interested in working as a behavioral health specialist in the mental health or healthcare field. The program, which is funded by Cedars-Sinai, provides education and training on an integrated model of wellness that incorporates mental and physical health models of client care.
Participants will receive training on working with clients in both behavioral health and medical care environments, preventive healthcare, understanding the integration of physical and mental health, and addressing health disparities and barriers to receiving care.
“Our Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist Certificate Program will increase the capacity of Los Angeles County’s mental and physical health workforce by providing comprehensive training to undergraduate students, preparing them to be certified and career-ready for placements with our hospital and nonprofit partners upon completion of the program,” said Christina Miller, PhD, president and CEO of MHALA.
The first session of the program will be October 9 – November 16, 2023. Upon completion, participants will receive a $500 bonus and certification as a Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist.
