Education

Through MHALA’s education program, members are able to learn important skills that can help them build core strengths and prepare them for their educational and employment goals.

Our education program includes:

  •  Reading, writing, spelling, and math
  • Typing and computer skills
  • Using phone technology, email, and internet
  • Building resumes
  • Individualized tutoring services
  • Initial tutoring and practice tests for high school equivalency credentials
  • Access to our computer lab

High School, Certifications, and Higher Education

Our education program also links members to Career Online High School, an online diploma-earning program, the Long Beach School for Adults, and similar institutions that assess basic skills and offer high school equivalency test programs so they can earn their diploma.

Members who want to apply to community college, career college, or a four-year university receive coaching, assistance with application and financial aid forms, and tutoring and ongoing support. We also offer assistance during their application to various peer-support training programs.

MHALA also offers the ServSafe or food handler’s license exam to individuals who wish to pursue a job in the culinary field, including MHALA’s own deli and Village Cookie Shoppe.
