More Ways to Support MHALA

In-Kind Gifts

We are often in need of personal hygiene products, hats, underwear, socks, sleeping bags, towels, and sun screen. We need more water in the summer months and more winter clothes during colder months.

Members who are able to secure housing need small household and kitchen items, as well as bed linens and towels.

To donate material goods, please contact MHALA's Development Department at development@mhala.org.

Matching Gifts

Many companies sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. Matching gifts can help double or even triple your gifts.

To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, please enter your employer's name in the link below. If your company appears in the search results, follow the link or instructions provided.

Planned Giving

You can help secure your legacy by making estate plan provisions to share a lasting, meaningful gift to individuals with mental health needs.

Planned gifts are a charitable tool that lets donors achieve their objectives using tax and financial planning methods that are typically made from assets in your estate.

The most common planned gift is a bequest in your will or living trust. Others include annuities, charitable lead trusts, endowment funds, life insurance policies, retirement plan assets, real estate, and stocks and bonds.

Even a small gift can make a big impact! Your financial advisor can help you decide which type of planned gift is best for you.

Memorials and Tributes

Remembrance gifts go directly toward the services and programs we provide our members in L.A. County.

When you make a gift in memory of a loved one, you can provide an individual in your community with a life-changing opportunity to recover from their mental health challenges.

You may also choose to make a donation in celebration of someone’s birthday, anniversary or other special occasion. The gift of helping others can be the best gift of all.

Stock Gifts

Stock gifts can have significant tax advantages for the giver.

As you consider a gift of stock, let us know when and how we can expect to receive your donation. Standard stock transfer procedures do not often include information about the sender, so it can be hard to track who made the gift.

You may choose to give a gift of stock in one of two ways:

  1. Stock certificates can be mailed directly to MHALA. Contact MHALA's Development Department at development@mhala.org for a copy of the forms needed to make a paper transfer.
  2. A broker can transfer stock directly to an MHALA account. MHALA’s broker is Natalie Perez at Gamble Jones Investment Counsel (626-795-7583). The DTC number is 0164, code 40.

MHALA will average the high and low prices of the stock on the date that we receive it. The gift will be valued at the average price in accordance with federal tax laws. Note that MHALA’s Tax ID number is 95-1881491.

Should you have questions or need additional information, please contact MHALA's Development Department at development@mhala.org.

Vehicle Donation

You can make a huge difference by donating your vehicle – whether it’s a car, truck, van, or RV. MHALA participates in a vehicle donation program that picks up your car for free and completes the sale of your donated vehicle.
