Education Internships

MHALA partners with universities and community colleges in the Greater Los Angeles area to provide internships to qualified students in several undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Students pursuing bachelors and master’s degrees in social work, nursing, human services, occupational therapy, and marriage and family therapy gain valuable hands-on experience in their fields while learning from fully qualified professionals tending to one of the most in-need populations.

MHALA currently has contracts with California State University Long Beach, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Northridge, CSU Bakersfield, Cal Poly Pomona, University of Southern California, and UCLA.

For additional information on academic internships with Mental Health America of Los Angeles, contact your college of university’s internships office or your department chair.

Mental Health Worker Program

We partner with Cerritos College through the Mental Health Worker Program, the first of its kind in Southern California. Established in 2006, the program prepares community college-level students for employment in the public mental health field.

The program consists of six courses (18 units), one of which has an internship component. Upon completion of coursework, students earn a Mental Health Worker Certificate of Achievement.

More information is available on the Cerritos College website.
