MHALA & Cedars-Sinai Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist
Certificate Program
The MHALA & Cedars-Sinai Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist Certificate Program is a free six-week program for those who want to work as a Behavioral Health Specialist in the mental health or healthcare fields.
The Fall 2024 session will be held Sept. 23 - Oct. 30, 2024.
The Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist Certificate Program provides education and training on an integrated model of wellness incorporating mental and physical health models of client care.
Participants will receive training on working with clients in both behavioral health and medical care environments, on preventive healthcare, on understanding the integration of physical and mental health, and on addressing health disparities and barriers to receiving care.
This course is offered through a grant from Cedars-Sinai to prepare participants for employment as a Behavioral Health Specialist in the mental health or healthcare fields.
Upcoming Session
The upcoming session of the Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist Certificate Program will be held Sept. 23 - Oct. 30, 2024. The deadline to apply is Sept. 13, 2024.
Classes are held virtually via Zoom three evenings a week – Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday – from 7pm-9pm. Participants will commit to a total of 42 hours for the program, which includes homework and assignments outside of the scheduled class times.
Program Benefits
We give participants the skills they need to stand out when looking for employment as a Behavioral Health Specialist. Participants will:
- Prepare for entry-level careers in mental health and medical settings
- Learn directly from recognized leaders in the mental health field
- Receive $500 upon completion of the program
- Enhance their resume
- Earn a certificate as a Behavioral Health Specialist
There is no cost to participate in this program. We cover program materials.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Wellness and Behavioral Health Specialist Certificate Program, applicants must reside in Los Angeles County and be new to the behavioral healthcare field. All applicants are required to be proficient in speaking/writing English and in using computers to access Zoom.
We are looking for participants who represent a broad range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Community college graduates or those attending community college are encouraged to apply, as are individuals from underserved populations and first generation/first in family to attend college.
The ideal participant has a motivation to work, a commitment to understanding the connection between mental health and physical health, and wants to make a difference in other people's lives.
